Get ready for 67th Detroit St. Patrick's Parade!

The St. Patrick’s Day Parade is an important celebration of Irish culture in honor of Ireland’s patron saint, St. Patrick. This annual event began in 1958, at first it was very small and organized exclusively by Irish immigrants in order to preserve their traditions. Over time, the parade became increasingly popular.

Each year, between 80,000 and 100,000 people gather in Corktown, the city’s oldest neighborhood. This makes our parade one of the largest St. Patrick’s Day events in the United States. Dozens of Irish organizations and hundreds of Irish-Americans put their hearts and souls in this special celebration.

For the running community, the annual Corktown Races will take place before the parade. The main race is a 5K and it’s not uncommon to see attendees decked out in flamboyant green garb, such as shamrocks or leprechauns. It’s the best opportunity to celebrate culture and enjoy an athletic challenge in this iconic neighborhood.

This St. Patrick’s Day Parade will honor Joan O’Halloran, elected Grand Marshal 2025 for her contribution to Detroit’s Irish community, specifically Irish musicians and emerging local bands. This year, the Hometown Heroes will honor the following members of the Plymouth Township Police: Sgt. Hinkle, Ofc Naamou, Ofc Cannon and Ofc Stempin.
